Hello from the 48 hour long ferry Osaka, Japan to Shanghai, China :).

So at first I was dreading the ferry since for some reason I thought we had booked the segregated dorms. I did see the dorm rooms.... female dorm had 15 matts on the ground all touching one another, and the male dorm had 40!!!! EEEK!!!! Totally brutal.

So glad we have our lovely 4 person cabin with our bunk beds and little curtains around to give some privacy. I think he French girl and her Italian boy friend could have used there own room, but I guess the curtain was enough privacy :).

I had forgotten Chris had only been on the water overnight once in his life, and that was on the houseboat in Varkala India. This is so much different, and although the beginning of the trip was pretty smooth when we went between the Islands of Japan... It's so beautiful and I wish we could stay n the water for a few more days. The sunsets are stunning and the weather is so good.

I did unfortunately have a bit of an accident yesterday though.... I was wandering around the ferry and saw a flight of stair heading to the top level.... ok turns out it was for crew and locked at the top, no biggie I figured I'd just turn around and take the long way. Unfortunately the stairs were painted 1000 times and since it wasn't for passengers there were no things on the steps to prevent slipping. (bet you can guess what happened). Soooooo I started walking own hand on either railing and slipped down two stair landing down hard on one foot and almost dislocating my shoulder. ARG!!!! My neck was in so much pain I had to head straight to the room and Chris headed to the bar for a bag of ice. ( luckily there are tons of barf bags perfect size for an ice pack). Dang it sucks being clumsy.... So I spent the next couple hours chillin on ice.

But I wasn't going to let that spoil all my fun...... I  love being on the water and later in the day realized it was perfect sun tanning weather :). We headed up to the top deck and caught a few rays.... also a few looks from the Chinese and Japanese on board, but we just enjoyed the sun and the movement of the ferry.

I can see Shanghai in the distance now and the ferry is calm again, but last night it was rocking like crazy. You could feel it moving in all four directions, and I was glad there was a railing on my bed :). It was pretty funny walking around and banging into things, especially after a couple beers.... (we had to use our Japanese money all up :)). I love being on the water, and glad Chris got to see how much you can bounce around :).

It sucks that I hurt myself, and it'll probably slow me way down again for a couple weeks, but what can ya do. I am so clumsy, accident prone, and easily injured...... it happens.

OK, time to get organized and ready for the hustle and bustle of China.... Wish us luck.

Sheryl

The clumsy gal who loves the water :).
