Hello from Chennai, India.

We arrived at stupid o'clock in the morning so instead of contacting Sujit the man we are going to be staying with (from Couch surfing). We caught a local train to an area we knew had cheap hotels. I couldn't believe how cheap and busy the train was at 5AM. The train was Rs 6 (it takes Rs 40 (Rupees) to $1 Canadian ) it looked like a TTC subway with the doors wide open, and there were fans all along the roof on both sides. It wasn't bad at all, but I bet it's insane during rush hour.

So we made it and dodged the hotel and taxi husslers. Chris made a few calls and after talking to Sujit (at a beter time) we headed for a classy Savation Army guest house. It cost Rs 350 for the room. The room was total bare bones, but we did have a bathroom with water running 24hrs...... well more of a drip but whatever. The guy showing us the room sprayed it with bug spray and left us. I can't believe how wiped we were. We were hungry, but more tired then aything else. We crashed and didn't wake up until about 4PM.

Crazy. We got tidied up, found some somosa and tea then grabbed our junk to meet up with Sujit.  :).

Sujit is a great guy and has a beautiful apartment. I hadn't expected to have our own room wih bathroom and everything.  So, so far India is cool. We've been out a few times wandering around and it's caotic and busy, but people on the streets smile back at you. Sujit took us out to one of his favourite hangouts our first night..... Spanish Tappa bar :). Tee hee. Not quite what we were expecting, but at least we had cold Kingfisher beer to wash the tappas down :).

I love the colours of all the saris the woman wear. I could live without the stench from the rivers we cross, and the smell of urin along the sidewalk, but it's all apart of the package. With over a billion people and massive amounts of homeless and poor people it's the way of things.

I have a few pictures I'll put on now, but since we'll be here possibly a couple more days I'll have to add more. I think we're starting a plan for where to go to next.

Oh by the way Sujit invited us to a Colour festival next month. We saw photo's and it looks so much fun. friends get together and basiclly have a paint fight with powdered colour. The photo's we saw lookd like a blast. There was a pool people jumped in to rince off and start again. All I could think was my dad would have killed me if I ever turned the pool red when I was a kid. Must be brutal to clean later :). Hopefully we can head South and make it back here for the Holy day :). Yeah. Ya gotta love a country that likes to play with vibrant colous :).

One last thing.... I think my camera has little time left, so I think I'm buying one tomorrow. I'd love to upgrade to the next level in cameras..... not pro, but in between.... but since it's too expensive, and I'm afraid of breaking, or loosing it I'll get one comperable to what I have now.Looks like I might be getting a Panosonic rather then a Cannon...... oh well, hopefully it doesn't suck.

OK, off for sure now.

Talk to you soon.

Sheryl..................

Back again..... Oops I guess I didn't add the above stuff to the internet.....

Anyways, the rest of our stay in Chennai was great. Chris and Sujit helped me find a new camera, and although I got a good price it hurt to spend so much on it. EEEK!!!! I now have another Cannon Powershot, but this is a SX100 IS so it's a definite upgrade. It makes my old camera look so small. I've been playing with it a ton, but for your benefit I erased a few hundred photo's of nothing :).

Ok, we are off and running to the transit. Sujit has been great, and I'm hoping we will make it back for the Holi festival of colours. :). Guess we'll see where we are in a month.

Have fun, and I hope everyone had a great Valentines day!!! And Happy Birthday Daniel (I can't believe my nephew is now 17??? Where did all that time get to???)

Talk to you soon.... until then enjoy some yummy Indian food and sweet milky tea, and imagine your here.

Time to head for the bus.

Sheryl
